SOME POINTS TO REMEMBER WHEN CONSIDERING
THE SAFETY OF YOUR CLASSROOM FURNITURE

MDF and Wood

MDF and Wood Fiber furniture panels are made by pressing together shreds and slivers of pulpwood. The result is a panel that is soft, swells like a sponge when it gets wet, and does not offer sufficient structural strength when compared to plywood. Most products produced using these materials will not hold a screw or dowel and will break easily allowing whatever is on its surface to rub, chip or flake away. HEALTHY KIDS™ FURNITURE does not contain panels made from MDF, medium density fiberboard, wood fiberboard, wheat, seeds or any other pressed together pulp materials.

Melamine is Dangerous

Melamine is a compound proven to be dangerous to a child’s health when ingested in even minute amounts. Recently, melamine killed and injured many children when they ingested the compound in their food. Melamine chips and flakes away from furniture making it easy for small children to ingest when they play or eat food on the furniture surface. Small children always put things in their mouths, even furniture. HEALTHY KIDS™ FURNITURE never contains melamine. Never has and never will.

Dowel Construction

Dowel construction can break, become loose, and panels can pull apart under the normal stress of everyday use by children. Dowels may be the fastest way to build furniture but they are also the weakest. HEALTHY KIDS™ FURNITURE uses an exclusive mortise, glue and steel pin construction for maximum beauty and strength - never dowels.
